I thought I was a writer, but while attempting to portray an artist as the main character in my third novel, some excellent advice came my way. “Pick up a brush and paint!” I'm still painting more than five years later. Recently I moved back to New Plymouth from Coromandel. Both places appear in my work, but most often I like to tell a story, as in “Coming Home” which depicts kayaking back to shore as a storm was brewing, or to convey a message as in the collage/mixed media piece “Gaza”. The Middle Eastern influence in my work comes from living and working in Turkey, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates for several years. I use acrylics generally, but lately I've been experimenting with watercolour. Mixed media and collage are also favourites, especially for exploring ideas. There's always something new in my studio. Come and see for yourself!
