Kaye Anderson

I thought I was a writer, but while attempting to portray an artist as the main character in my third novel, some excellent advice came my way. “Pick up a brush and paint!” I'm still painting more than five years later. Recently I moved back to New Plymouth from Coromandel. Both places appear in my work, but most often I like to tell a story, as in “Coming Home” which depicts kayaking back to shore as a storm was brewing, or to convey a message as in the collage/mixed media piece “Gaza”. The Middle Eastern influence in my work comes from living and working in Turkey, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates for several years. I use acrylics generally, but lately I've been experimenting with watercolour. Mixed media and collage are also favourites, especially for exploring ideas. There's always something new in my studio.
