Katrin Lemcke

Trained as a goldsmith in my hometown of Hamburg in Germany, I have been making jewellery in Taranaki for 16 years. I feel very fortunate to live here now with my partner and son, and to be able to create jewellery in my studio in the back of my own tea shop. I enjoy that I am finally able to allow more experimentation and artistic expression into my work.
My designs express a combination of opposites such as traditional fine jewellery with more organic shapes, ancient techniques with modern technology, and movement with a feeling of stillness.
Gemstones often take a central role in my pieces, and are showcased with intricate gold and silver work. More recently I have been exploring bolder surface textures and contrast which add a moody depth to many pieces.
