John Fawkner
21 Findlay Street, Moturoa, New Plymouth 4310, New Zealand
John Fawkner came to painting through pottery, using basic material to create items of beauty and functionality. Being a potter required him to develop skills in another forms of art—in his case, drawing and painting. Attending life drawing classes run by Tom Kreisler introduced him to a wide range of art practices, encouraging exploration beyond the traditional. John finds inspiration in the mundane, uncovering beauty in the ordinary. Objects that might be overlooked or deemed unattractive by society's shallow and superficial standards can still hold aesthetic value and intrigue. Recognising beauty in unlikely subject matter creates a dynamic tension between the subject and the concept of "art." Everything, by virtue of its creation, possesses a unique beauty that can be revealed through.
