Amy Brennan

286B Smart Road, Hillsborough 4372, New Zealand

Amy Brennan is a ceramic artist based in Taranaki, working from her home studio in New Plymouth. After nearly twenty years in Wellington’s film industry, she returned home in 2019 and began focusing more seriously on clay, bringing with her a well-developed eye for expression, character, and visual storytelling.

Features

Amy makes one of a kind ceramic characters, both wall-based and freestanding, with faces and forms that feel playful, vivid, and distinctly their own. Her work draws on everyday moments, passing expressions, and the colours and shapes of flowers, though these starting points often shift and expand as each piece takes shape.

Every work is hand-built and finished with a painterly approach to glaze. Some pieces begin with a clear idea, while others evolve more intuitively, allowing personality to emerge gradually through the making. That sense of discovery is central to Amy’s practice. Her ceramics invite connection through humour, warmth, and a feeling of familiarity.
