Simon Raine

Simon Raine is a Visual Artist and Art Teacher who has formed a close relationship with Taranaki since arriving in 2016. Originally from Southampton in the UK he studied Fine Art at Kent Institute of Art and Design graduating in 1999. Simon arrived in New Zealand in 2007 and has lived in both Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland, and Taranaki where he now lives. Making art is about the process of discovery. Simon has always created; his work is multidisciplinary, inspired by thoughts, emotions, and questions arising from day-to-day life. In recent years Simon’s work increasingly responds to the changing moods of Taranaki’s wild West Coast. He transitions between representation and abstraction, celebrating the use of colour and the enjoyment of working with varied media. Simon wants the viewer to experience and enjoy his artwork and to share, for a short time, his experience of the world in which we live.
