Maryanne van Roij

I feel a deep connection to the coastal and rural landscapes that make Taranaki so unique, and draw a lot of inspiration from nature and our local environment. My love of flowers and nature is reflected in the different ways I enhance my work - there’s always the compulsion to adorn pieces with whimsical flowers or an insect to brighten them up. I also create and design wearable art in the form of porcelain brooches. I mainly make functional hand-built and wheel thrown pieces out of porcelain and some terracotta from my home studio overlooking our farm on the outskirts of New Plymouth.
