Kelly Dobbs

Naturally creative, Kelly Dobbs began with fantastical sketch work, photography, intricate sculptures and songwriting. Since 2019 Kelly has found great satisfaction focusing on paintings and sketch work. His inspiration comes from nature, memories and dreams. In mediums of acrylic and oil, his paintings are varied in style from colourful expressive abstract forms to stylized semi-realistic landscapes. Kellys powerful drawings are works in ball point pen. They are intricately detailed, dark, emotional and mystical. Many of them contain hidden images of faces within the landscapes. Often the seascapes and coastal scenes are expressions of his personal struggles and of hope in the storms of life. Kelly works from home and within The Art Loft collective in central New Plymouth, where he exhibits most of his work.
