Over the last six months I’ve bounced from painting decorative realism to a more suggestive, impressionist rendering of wild west sea and skyscapes. This ‘Texture and Light’ series will be launching over the Arts Trail and Garden Festival.
The process of inventing new texturing techniques for a more earthy, 3-D visual effect through a build-up of layers and using rust or gold leaf for highlights is what’s got me excited.
It’s been a process of addictive experimentation making and discovering how different products – various plasters, copper, rust, inks, resins, acrylics, sand and gold leaf – can work together.
These new works evoke everything from a fleeting moment of glowering light on water or cloud. Or the slow, subtle impact of erosion on the ancient land.
My new works, and some of my ‘ Classic Jayeta’ native flora and fauna paintings, will be exhibited at my gallery in Vogeltown over the Arts Trail and entire Garden Festival.
