I studied furniture design and making at UCOL in 2010-2011.
My designs start with a vision of a completed form, I will quickly sketch it, somewhat in the rough form, explorations of continuous ideas and evolving solutions. Visualising the mechanics, the dynamics of the loads and forces playing in a structure, How can I create the piece? Cutting the wood, creating a natural feel for the form of the object.
I like working with nice timber, NZ Tawa, Maple, Miro, Australian Blackwood, to name a few. Sharp blades are integral to my work. My designs are an attempt to show dynamism in form, energy, power and grace exalted in movement.
The structure being transparent and solid, still and erratic, Exploration of ideas within the practical constraints of furniture.
