Handthrown domestic stoneware crafted in Taranaki

In “A Potter’s Book” Bernard Leach describes the aesthetic of actual living, in which utility is the first principle of beauty and where significance is given to articles of everyday life. Through her practice Janeen aims to bring this beauty back to the table, by transforming raw materials through the hand and flame, creating pots that speak of this journey.

Living beneath Mt Taranaki the surrounding geology provides the perfect ingredients for pottery making. The locally sourced ingredients of the glazes create the rich brick reds and oily iron breaks within each individual piece, a truly Taranaki pallette.
