Helen Griffiths

My 7-day-a-week business allowed me to observe the best and worst of humanity whilst riding the roller coaster of small business ownership. Writing poetry became an important creative vent for me, my go-to tool for saving my sanity. In my twenties I studied linguistics at University and became a speech language therapist, so I’ve always had an affinity for words and expression. I’ve developed an appreciation of poetry as an art form. I love the idea of breaking the common perception of poetry belonging in books - which is why creating opportunities to showcase poems in different contexts is so appealing. My poems have featured in Phantom Billstickers frames around New Plymouth. I organized the ‘Poem on a Pillow Day’ and the ‘Sticky Note Poetry Exhibit’ on National Poetry Day 2018. Come and find out explore how I’ve chosen to share my work for the Taranaki Arts Trail 2019.
