Marita is a mum of two boys (Theo year 6, and Joseph year 8), living in New Plymouth with husband, and knife maker, Aaron.
She makes functional, wheel-thrown pottery in her home studio in Westown. She describes her practice as intuitive and autobiographical; "I make things that I myself like, and that we as a family use. This seems to be a good criteria for what other people like and need too. I hope my work feels fresh and authentic, and that it adds an element of joy to everyday routines.
She works in terracotta and stoneware clays, and electric fires her work using food-safe glazes.
Marita’s work is sold and exhibited predominantly through New Plymouth Gallery Kina (on Devon St), but she and has also had solo exhibitions at the Taupo Museum, Waikato Museum (Hamilton), and ROAR Gallery in Wellington.
