I took up playing with clay (hand building) some 3 years ago as a hobby to take me beyond retirement which happened in May 2017. I still see myself as an amateur, though perhaps with some developing skills and style, so the Arts Trail is really a challenge to that belief.
I'm into pieces that are pratical, usable, colourful and fun and take inspiration from nature and from indigenous designs and symbols including those of my Latvian heritage. An early contact with a Raku firing really caught my imagination. A gas-fired Raku kiln in the back yard provides the opportunity to experiment with this firey and exciting process.
