Joni Murphy

I am a full-time artist in New Plymouth working in mixed media; Watercolour, Pen & Ink and Acrylic. The main subject of my artwork is the landscape, a subject I have studied & theme I have explored for many years, Our Mountain, Taranaki, which features prominently in our landscape. Painting plain air has been a rewarding way of further developing the feeling and mood expressed in my watercolour painting. I also have a passion for botanical studies, painting details of seasonal flowers and plants.
My involvement with the community is also very important to my artistic endeavours. I strongly believe 'a creative community is a healthy community'
I provide weekly art classes for children in Bell block and New Plymouth, thanks to the support of Creative Communities New Plymouth. Workshops for Adults are held in the evenings and weekends from my private studio at Starfish, New Plymouth. The intention for these workshops is to ignite the creative fire which I believe lives in all of us, and developing skills by teaching basic techniques and introducing conceptual ideas. Currently I am also the Artist In Residence at Access Radio Taranaki.
Lots of off street parking available at my studio. For Art Workshops enquires and bookings during the Arts Trail Weekend please feel free to contact me.
